Describe why you are interested in planning as a professional field and explain how the UVA School of Architecture will help you meet your goals. Essay 1 (Path 2, 2.5, 3 applicants)
Describe a designed or vernacular landscape that you have visited and found significant. What did you learn from your first-hand experience? What about it affected you and why? The landscape you select can be a well-known designed landscape, or an ordinary and less recognized place.
Essay 1 (Path 2 ADV applicants)
Discuss the design and research topics you intend to explore as the focus of your studies at UVA. If known, you may list faculty members with whom you would like to study.

At UVA School of Architecture, our graduate Architecture program is framed by an innovative curriculum that addresses the many ways in which design shapes and invents the world around us. The work of our students and faculty is investigative, critical, articulate, experimental and rigorous.
1）PATH 3.0: 102 CREDITS
The Path 3.0 Master of Architecture (First Professional) is a 3-year graduate professional degree with a minimum of 102 credits.
2）PATH 2.5: 82 CREDITS
The Path 2.5 Master of Architecture (First Professional) is a 2.5-year graduate professional degree with a minimum of 82 credits.
3）PATH 2.0: 67 CREDITS
The Path 2.0 Master of Architecture (First Professional) is a 2-year graduate professional degree with a minimum of 67 credits.
4）PATH 1.0: 31 CREDITS
The Path 1.0 Master of Architecture (non-accredited, Design Studies) is a 1-year non-professional degree with a minimum of 31 credits. This degree is intended for applicants who already have a professional degree in architecture or related fields who want to pursue advanced study with an emphasis on design, research and teaching.

Master of Landscape Architecture
Landscape Architecture at UVA strives to educate and inspire the next generation of landscape architecture leaders. As a department, we develop critical perspectives on issues that affect landscapes across a broad range of scales, including issues of technology, social and environmental justice, ecology, and design culture. Drawing on the skills and expertise of internationally-recognized academics and practitioners, the Landscape Architecture, we promote a global perspective on socio-ecological contexts, inter-species articulation, cultural meaning, ecological fitness, and the challenges of adapting to a rapidly-changing environment. We prepare our graduates to be critical thinkers and global citizens to form a more inclusive and resilient world.
AS OF SPRING 2019, UVA SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE'S MASTER OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE PROGRAM (PATH 2, PATH 2.5, AND PATH 3) IS STEM-DESIGNATED.

Master of Urban + Environmental Planning
The Master of Urban + Environmental Planning degree is a professional degree aimed at individuals interested in planning and creating healthy, safe, livable, and equitable communities. Our students obtain the analytical skills, technical tools, theoretical insights, and applied experiences needed to make them effective, ethical and leading professionals.
The Master of Urban + Environmental Planning is a 2-year graduate degree with a minimum of 49 credits .
