网络课程真的能代替传统的实体课程么？
如果，几年以后所有的课程都变成了在线教学
会是什么样子？
来自内心深处的疑问
最近， 佩斯大学的校长 发表了这样一篇文章
“Recently I visited the legendary investor and author Mario Gabelli. Gabelli is one of Wall Street’s most successful stock pickers; he’s known for his contrarian takes and his dedication to value investing. But when we spoke, he pointed to another great secret of his success: He told me how much he believes in the importance of talking to people. Even now, after 40 years as an investor and all his tremendous success, Gabelli says he still travels to far-flung locations to meet people and understand the work they’re doing. He told me that visiting in person helps him find insights that he could never gain just by looking on the computer or even talking by phone.
You learn things about a place, a business, a person, he said. You build trust. You build relationships. You build networks. When I mentioned that my hometown is Lexington, Kentucky, he immediately reeled off several businesses he’d visited there. When you visit in-person, you get to know a place. Gabelli’s comments have stuck with me, for two reasons. One is that I agree with him. The other is that I’ve been grappling with the question of how we maintain human connections as more and more of higher education shifts to the digital realm. The shift is undeniable. About 6 percent of all students, including both undergraduates and graduate students, now take at least one distance-education class. Of those, about half take exclusively distance courses. That’s more than 3 million students who are exclusively distance learners. At the same time, the number of students studying on a campus dropped by about 6.4 percent from 2012 to 2016.”

“ At Pace, we’re a part of this trend. Our numbers aren’t so dramatic, but our online student population is growing. We’ve offered distance learning for many years, but we’re now responding to demand and growing our offerings. We have up to 17 programs in development to launch or re-launch over the next several semesters. In our experience, online education is growing most rapidly for graduate education. But it’s a factor for undergraduates, too.”

“I remain, like Gabelli, a dedicated believer in human interaction. But how can we maintain that in the era of online instruction? That question, it turns out, is a pressing one for distance-education professionals. And the answer, they say, is what the digital world calls “presence.”

Studies have shown that creating strong presence and engagement in an online class—mimicking that personal connection Gabelli and I so value—improves academic outcomes and student experience. ”
Presence本质上是指参与、出席 。在实体课上是自然而然发生的事情，但在线上教育中，老师必须努力去让Presence实现。糟糕的网课可能会让人 感到冷漠和缺乏人情味 ;会让在线教师有距离感。这就非常需要线上教师努力的去让学生有参与感。研究表明，在网络课堂上 创造强大的存在感和参与感，可以提高学习成绩和学生体验 。

在相对较轻松的环境下，学生的 思想很容易开小差
并且因为课程可以随时暂停
导致学生的 思维很容易不连贯
从而学习效果“ 事倍功半 ”
更重要的是
就像佩斯校长提到的
网课削弱了 老师和学生的沟通
而这种互动却恰恰是 学好一门课的关键
也是 校园生活必不可少的一部分
Networking的重要性
众所周知，在美国这个很看重社交网的国家， 人与人之间的互动、沟通是非常重要的 。这不仅关乎着你能不能得到想要的成绩，还关乎着你是否能拿到好的推荐信，是否能在工作中出彩。

这就是为什么很多学生即使不喜欢社交，疲惫于笑脸迎人，也要拼了命的和别人建立联系。
所以说，网课虽方便
